Here’s the perfect Riviera Maya base for large groups. Part of a small Puerto Aventuras estate, Hacienda Corazon fronts onto Fatima Bay’s slender white-sand beach, with the deep blue sea beckoning straight ahead, in frisbee-throwing distance.

Offering vintage hacienda design – think arched courtyard galleries and lots of dark woods – the airy main house contains two living rooms and an enormous, professional kitchen. There are a quartet of suites here, mostly ocean-facing kings, with another six across two adjacent wings, including a pair of twins. Every bedroom is ensuite. Housekeepers will come and keep things ship shape, while a chef is also available on request. Should you need even more space for a special event, neighbouring Hacienda Del Mar and Hacienda Magica are also available to rent.

Pool and ping pong tables stand ready for rare rainy days. Outside, past a large, covered oceanfront terrace and barbecue – ideal for al fresco dinners – awaits the large pool and its sun deck. Beyond that begins the beach, with several kayaks available to use. Making snorkelling fun, an artificial reef also guarantees gentle waves.

Puerto Aventuras boasts a golf course and tennis courts, as well as a gym and international restaurants on its marina alongside sport-fishing charters. Party-minded Playa Del Carmen is 15 minutes’ drive north, past many more beaches, while not far south are famous Playa Akumal and the Mayan ruins at Tulum.
