Harikoa translates as Joy and Happiness in the Māori language, and that’s certainly an apt description for this beautiful Barbadian villa. With four elegant bedrooms and comfortably sleeping up to eight guests, Harikoa is just a four-minute walk from the exquisite Gibbes Beach, one of the most spectacular beaches in Barbados.

Gibbes Beach sits in a sheltered spot on the northwest coast of the island. Known as the Platinum Coast, it features a sweeping crescent of powder-soft sand lapped by azure water. It’s the ultimate Barbadian beach, providing safe swimming in shallow, warm water and shady spots underneath palm trees to laze away the afternoon. A stroll along the warm sand will bring you to beachfront restaurants where you can indulge your tastebuds with spicy seafood and some potent rum punch.

A team of highly trained staff ensure that every need is catered to during your stay at Harikoa. The award-winning interior embraces elements of Barbados culture, with paintings by local artists and charmingly bohemian décor that has real personality. The living areas are cosy, encouraging guests to find their own spot inside or out. The kitchen is your chef’s domain, where mouthwatering dishes are prepared for you daily.

The four bedrooms each have a separate theme, giving this villa a boutique feel. The primary suite features a sumptuous super-king-size bed and a soothing white theme throughout, while the second suite also has a super-king-size bed and colourways inspired by the soft gold of the beach sand. The two remaining bedrooms have twin beds that can be converted into king-size beds on request. Attractive ensuites are attached to each room, with rainfall showers and dual vanity units.

Outside, the covered pergola is the ideal spot for that morning coffee. Take the steps down into the manicured garden for an early morning yoga session. Or dive into the warm water of the pool for a refreshing swim. At the end of another day in paradise, dine al fresco and watch the Caribbean sunset transform into a star-studded night sky of dazzling beauty. Harikoa really does live up to its name and is a joyful place for a family vacation.
