A secret location in the heart of a scented pine forest is the site of this magical seven-bedroom traditional Tuscan villa that comfortably sleeps up to 14 guests. Mingling with the fragrance of pine is the tang of salt, as you’re only a few steps away from Roccamare, one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy.

With Blue Flag status and crystal clear, safe water, Roccamare is a dream for anyone who loves snorkelling or swimming. If you prefer to explore the culture of the region, a trip to nearby Castiglione della Pescaia, a modern town with an exquisite medieval centre, is a must. To find out more about the Etruscan heritage and culture, a visit to the Etruscan centre of Vetulonia is highly recommended. The town’s location on the coast means that succulent, fresh seafood is on every menu, accompanied by a bottle or two of the local wine.

The interior of the villa is subtly contemporary, but it allows the villa’s more traditional features to shine through by using a soft colour palette that harmonises with the more organic elements of the interior. The living room is cosy and spacious, and the kitchen features a glass roof allowing the golden Tuscan light to flood in. A private studio is a quiet spot to answer some emails in peace while the glass patio doors open out onto a sunny terrace.

Upstairs, seven restful bedrooms offer understated sophistication, enlivened with some splashes of colour that give each room a distinctive look and feel. Six of the rooms have king-size beds, while the seventh has two single beds, making it ideal for younger guests. Attractive ensuites accompany each room, while work desks, armchairs and plenty of storage give the bedrooms a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere.

Outside, the multiple terraces that are so typical of Tuscany take you on a journey through banks of scented geraniums accompanied by the soft whisper of those swaying pine trees. The large swimming pool sparkles in the sunshine, or if you prefer your swimming more natural, a few steps lead you to the private beach for a dawn swim or yoga session. Villa La Pineta is a secluded escape that captures the very spirit of this delightful region.
