The word Marchesa refers to an Italian noblewoman; to be precise: the rank just below Princess. So it is no surprise that Villa Marchesa is a regal edifice, although you might still be surprised by just how wonderfully light, airy and comfortable it is.

Surrounded by wonderful private woods on the Maremma Coast, Villa Marchesa enjoys splendid seclusion. Yet the beautiful beaches of Scarlino and Punta Ala are just 30 minutes away and the charming town of Ribolla is only ten minutes from your door. The airport is a 105-minute drive but, once immersed in the estate, boundless walks, wineries and villages surround you. The estate also offers a horseback riding facility.

The home is a gorgeous blend of contemporary chic and rustic splendour. Great sweeping arches of brick soar across the capacious rooms, aged stone walls are adorned by magnificent wooden-beamed ceilings with a palette of soothing earthy and sky tones. The main living area is a gloriously grand space with tiled floors and a magnificent, free-standing fireplace which you can gather around on all sides. A sunset-shaped arch leads through to the billiard room, flooded with light from elegant French doors. Round the corner is a further living room with more, sumptuously soft seating decked in Italian fabrics. A cosy sitting room boasts a flatscreen satellite TV and an ample sofa as well as an iPod dock with surround sound.

The fully-equipped and delightful Tuscan kitchen is filled with warm wood cabinetry and furnishings as well as a fabulously large stove. The magnificent dining room, with an 18-seat table, is filled with vibrant colour and graceful design to create a wonderfully celebratory ambience. There's also a charming, light-filled study. A boutique home gym and delectable sauna complete the sense of lavish decadence.

The nine ensuite bedrooms are all spacious and airy retreats of wooden floors and gorgeous vaulted or lofty ceilings. Yet each has its own fabulous unique character: from sleek modern and Parisian charm to seaside chic and Mediterranean bursts of colour. There's one king suite with a glorious deep soaking tub, two queen suites, two doubles and four twins just perfect for kids and teens.

Outside, seemingly endless lawns encase the home and stretch out towards the spectacular views of the Tuscan countryside. The dazzling infinity pool is something special: crafted into three sections it contains its own waterfall and three different depths - from 50cm to 1.5m. There's also a lovely pool house with a large fridge and ice-maker for whipping up a waterside drink. Back by the house are two enchanting loggias, entwined in greenery, with room for 18 and filled with a magical ambience to add that extra sparkle to dining al fresco.
