The perfect stay
in Aspen, Colorado

From forests filled with golds and reds that rival New England in the Fall to some of the best skiing on the entire American continent, there's much to do in Aspen on vacation, with the lofty mountain resort of Aspen, Colorado, being a nature lover's dream. You become part of the landscape, whether you’re hiking the mountain trails in the summer or hitting the black runs in the winter. Our Aspen vacation rentals provide an elegant base where you can soak in a hot tub at the end of the day with a glass of wine and watch the stars twinkling over the mountain tops.

You’re on top of the world here in Aspen. It pays to acclimatise yourself for a day so you can really appreciate the true majesty of the Aspen mountains without getting too out of breath. But once you’re ‘mountain-ready’, it’s time to lace up the hiking boots and go exploring. There’s silver in them-thar hills, which is why Colorado is also known as the Silver State. A great way to connect with the Old Timers who worked these mountains is to check out Smuggler Mine, where the world’s largest silver nugget was unearthed by some very happy miners in 1894. It weighed 2054lbs – that’s just over a ton of silver in one nugget.

At the end of a busy day, take off the skis (or the miner’s hat) and head back to your luxury chalet vacation rental in Aspen. Get the log fire crackling and gaze out over the mountain views. Aspen has a true ‘village’ feel, and a leisurely stroll downtown will introduce you to authentic mom-and-pop restaurants where you’ll be made to feel like one of the family. Downtown Aspen is filled with boutiques and has a thriving arts scene too, so there’s plenty of entertainment to enjoy on your dream vacation.

Things you can't miss in Aspen
  • Hop on the Silver Queen Gondola and enjoy the view.
  • Explore the mountains with the Maroon Bells Scenic hiking trail.
  • Go snowshoeing on Aspen Mountain with a local guide.

Best time to go

  • During spring: while the lower meadows are starting to fill with wildflowers, the upper passes are still great for a ski vacation right through to May. Head for Independence Pass for some Backcountry skiing.

  • During summer: a host of activities are on offer during the summer, from golf to white water rafting, hot air ballooning and rodeo festivals. Temperatures hover around the 70-80°F (21-26°C) mark, but remember, you’re in the mountains here so temperatures can drop quickly once the sun goes down.

  • During autumn: Maine doesn’t have an exclusive claim on Fall colours, and Colorado’s forests are genuinely dazzling in September and October. Expect heavy snowfall later on in the season.

  • During winter: low rainfall but high snowfall dominates the winter weather, where temperatures can drop down to around 15°F. You’ll have plenty of sunny days and very little wind.

How to get there

Make the journey to your luxury cabin or vacation rental as memorable as the arrival. Your dedicated concierge can arrange transportation from the closest airport or train station to your Aspen chalet.

By car

Our top tip is to go for a 4x4, especially if your chalet in Aspen is at a higher altitude. Go for a wander and explore Snowmass, Red Mountain, Highlands or Starwood. Your dedicated concierge can arrange car hire for you, and have your SUV delivered right to your door, complete with heated seats and onboard satnav.

By plane

Most flights arrive at Denver International airport. The smaller local Aspen-Pitkin County Airport is ideal for private jets but be aware it may be closed during bad weather. Your dedicated concierge will be able to pre-arrange transfers to your villa. The five-hour drive from Denver to Aspen is a wonderful chance to marvel at the Rocky Mountains scenery.

By train

Do the great American rail trip with Amtrak’s California Zephyr. It runs from Chicago and Emeryville and stops once a day in Glenwood Springs. From here you can connect to Aspen. Your dedicated concierge can arrange tickets and transfers to your luxury rental chalet in Aspen.

Local Tips

  • Make sure you get a lift ticket that gives you access to all four mountains - Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass.
  • Sitting at almost 8000 feet, the altitude is quite a thing. If you're not used to it, we highly recommend you don't plan on skiing the same day you arrive.
  • Aspen is known for festive or relaxing après-ski venues and the best spots get very busy during peak season so remember to book well in advance.
  • Avalanches are a real risk, especially on the higher slopes. Take note of any warnings and unless you’re very experienced, stick to the runs and avoid going off the ski trails during heavy snowfalls.
