Best time to go

  • During spring: with fewer visitors to the island, the languid pace of life encourages you to stop and chat over a coffee and enjoy the ambient temperatures, which sit at around 18-23°C (64-73°F). The beaches are almost empty, and while not all of the clubs and bars are open yet, the sense of tranquillity is glorious. Take the opportunity to explore the alley of Chora without the usual hustle and bustle.

  • During summer: savour balmy temperatures on blissful beaches: summer in Mykonos is all about sun, sand and sea. The water temperature is on the rise to around 24°C (75°F) in July, putting water sports at the top of the agenda. While back on land, the restaurants, bars and clubs are bustling with sun-seekers and party lovers from all walks of life. During the warmer months, Mykonos sparkles with vibrancy, culture and charm.

  • During autumn: the autumn months bring a sense of peace back to the island, with most holidaymakers dispersing as the fresher weather arrives. During this period, the temperatures are similar to the spring averages, although the water temperature remains in the mid-20°C range right through until October. Autumn heralds the grape harvest on the island, the perfect opportunity to experience authentic island food and drink.

  • During winter: the winter in Mykonos is cool and calm, with temperatures ranging from a low of 11ۜ°C (52°F) to a high of 20°C (68°F). While some attractions may be closed over these months, life does go on and winter visitors will receive a warm welcome in the local restaurants and bistros. It’s a rare chance to stroll along empty beaches and watch the famous Mykonos sunsets in complete peace.

By plane

Mykonos airport is easy to get to and there are plenty of chartered flights daily from Athens. During the summer season, there are additional flights from neighbouring islands such as Crete, Santorini and Thessaloniki. The airport is suitable for private jets and helicopters. Your dedicated concierge will be able to arrange transfers or car hire to your luxury Mykonos villa.

By boat

Ferries and high-speed catamarans run every day from mainland Greece. Depending on the type of ferry you choose, you can spend a wonderful few hours cruising across the azure waves of the Aegean Sea. You can island-hop in the summer, but you will need to pre-book from mid-July onwards, during the high season.

Local tips

  • Be mindful of the infamous Meltemi wind, which locals refer to as a natural “air-conditioner.” Even in the warm summer period, it is worth packing a jumper in case of a cooler evening.
  • A rental car is advisable if you wish to explore the countless hidden coves, secret beaches and sleepy little villages scattered across the island. If travelling by taxi, make sure to have a bit of cash on hand to tip drivers.
