During spring: if you’re searching for a tranquil break in the mountains, then spring is one of the best times to visit Jackson Hole. The quiet town takes on a sleepy, laid-back feel before the busy summer season, and the hiking trails are just starting to burst into bloom at the end of spring, with acres of wildflower meadows filling the valley floor. Nights can still be chilly, so it’s advisable to pack a jumper or two just in case.
During summer: throughout June and July, the region is in full bloom, and the snow melts plump up the rivers, making white water rafting a popular pastime. During July and August, the warm weather brings out the alpine blooms for a second burst of wildflower colour and, while it is pleasantly warm in the sun, that spare jumper may still come in handy during the evenings.
During autumn: snow starts to fall in late autumn, but before then, you’ll get a ‘fall’ display that rivals New England as the trees blaze red and gold. During the autumn, you are more likely to see elk and other wildlife at lower levels as the last of the grazing starts to disappear under a carpet of snow. Temperatures fall away quickly, especially after dark, when the thermometer can dip well below zero.
During winter: the peak season in Jackson Hole sees plenty of skiers and snowboarders visiting to enjoy the superb quality powder snow that falls on the mountains. Temperatures can plummet and snow depths of up to ten feet are common on the mountains. If you’re driving to your Jackson Hole chalet during this season, winter tyres and 4x4 capability are a must.
Make the journey as memorable as the arrival. Your dedicated concierge can arrange transportation from the closest airport to your Jackson Hole chalet.
Jackson sits on Route 191 and is linked by Wyoming State Highway 22. Salt Lake City is around a five-hour drive from Jackson Hole.
Jackson Hole Airport is the only airport in the USA that is located within a national park (Grand Teton National Park). The airport is ideal for private jets, charters and helicopters as noise restrictions and a shorter runway prevent larger aircraft from landing here. Our Jackson Hole chalets are easily accessible from the airport, and your concierge will be happy to arrange transfers or car hire for you on arrival.
