Steamboat, The Rockies
Just steps away from the Thunderhead ski lift and with sweeping views across the Yampa Valley is Gold Mine Lodge. This is a six-bedroom chalet that welcomes up to 16 guests. Covering over 7,720ft², it’s created out of genuine gold mine timbers, ensuring that Steamboat Springs's heritage is engrained into this elegant chalet's very structure. Steamboat Spring’s gold mining heritage stretches back to the middle of the 19th century when the sound of prospector’s hammers rang through the mountains. Today, there may not be any precious metal left in the tunnels and streams of Steamboat Springs, but the shine certainly hasn’t gone from this charming town. Its natural hot springs are said to have restorative properties, just the thing to ease those tired muscles after a day on the ski runs of Mount Werner. During the summer, the town is alive with gourmet food and cultural festivals. You can get an authentic taste of Steamboat Springs all year round with a shot of the locally-produced bourbon or craft vodkas with a dash of chilli in them to keep out the cold. In Gold Mine Lodge, the great room is dominated by the feature stone fireplace, surrounded by cosy sofas and snuggly, deep-pile rugs. The kitchen is fully fitted with the latest Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, and cooks can stare out at that incredible view while they’re waiting for the steaks to fry to perfection. The dining room seats ten and has a feature antler chandelier. The bedrooms are designed to be adaptable to different configurations. The master suite has a king-size bed, private patio, a seating area and ensuite with soak tub. Bedrooms two and three have queen-size beds, while bedrooms four and five have king-size beds. All have ensuite bathrooms. The final bedroom is just right for kids, with three extra-large twin-over-twin bunks. A private office space with fast wifi is there for when you absolutely have to answer that email, and a fitness room ensures you keep up with your workout plan. With show-stopping views of the peaks from every window, Gold Mine Lodge is full of little features and bespoke flourishes that make it unique. This stunning fusion of old-time Western culture with contemporary living creates a warm, welcoming and family-friendly chalet in the mountains.
