Virgin Gorda locations don’t come any better than this. Not only is Azure Wish within sight of Gorda Peak (a great hiking challenge) and only a short drive from Spanish Town, day cruises and deep-sea fishing charters, but it enjoys a private beachside setting. That puts excellent snorkelling and twin-kayaking (two are provided) only a few barefooted downhill steps from your front door, while surrounding Nail Bay resort has tempting tennis courts, a gym and a gourmet Caribbean restaurant.

Whatever you do, return in time to watch sunset from the villa’s L-shaped pool. Segregated into paddling and swimming sections for families, this borders a quartz deck dotted with wicker furniture and recliners. There’s a barbecue grill and dining area, too, allowing al fresco meals as everyone gazes across azure seas towards the Dog Islands. Mature gardens and privacy hedges flank the home’s other sides to guarantee privacy.

Sliding glass doors – which can be left open to allow in breezes, or shut in favour of the air-conditioning – lead to a sprawling, living, dining and kitchen rooms; the latter has every appliance you’ll possibly need. Two suites off the foyer have king-size beds and modern bathrooms. Upstairs are the two master bedrooms, each ensuite under a grand cathedral ceiling and boasting enormous double showers.
