Casa Maravillas is part of Punta Ballena, one of Los Cabos’ most desirable seafront estates. Named for its winter humpback-watching potential (‘ballena’ means whale), the exclusive development includes a beach club where you’ll find a gym, bar and gourmet food served to daybeds beside heated pools or the rocky shore. You’ll have access to that and to the celeb-happy Esperanza hotel’s spa and restaurants. Cabo San Lucas is four miles west.

Maravillas itself comes with distractions aplenty. There’s a private heated pool and neighbouring hot tub, flanked by multiple sun loungers on a tiled deck. There’s a tiki-style palapa hut for outdoor dining. There’s a shaded terrace, cooled by ceiling fans to enable siestas or book-reading. There are meticulously landscaped grounds, shaded by various palm trees and coloured by tropical plants. There’s a barbecue grill. And there are sensational views over the Sea of Cortez, uninterrupted and prettily pink at sunset.

Venture inside, through retractable doors, and you’ll find high ceilings and whitewashed walls accentuating the spaciousness, plus homely dark-wood furnishings and bursts of colour. Dining and lounge spaces again have ocean vistas, as do two of the four ensuite bedrooms. Three of this quartet are found in the main house, with the last secluded in a courtyard casita. To further ensure a lazy, leisurely week, you needn’t even worry about chores – a housekeeper visits daily.
