Pieces of the past

Like the V&A Museum nearby, Donne Place is dotted with historical objects. A grandfather clock ticks in the sitting room (opposite the front door), where pieces of a stone frieze stand on white shelves. Weathered leather chairs flank a fireplace on the left, and straight ahead is the kitchen. With white cabinets and a sloping skylight, it’s modern, but not without the odd vintage touch, like the seascape artwork hanging opposite the dining table.

The paved garden, out through glass doors, is bordered by climbing flowers and a bench. In the sitting room is a staircase that leads up to the first floor. Here you’ll find a bathroom, as well as the master bedroom, which has a contemporary ensuite. On the second floor, there’s a cream-walled double bedroom.

As fans of the Chelsea Flower Show, staying at Donne Place couldn't have been more perfect. It is a stunningly beautiful house and it is within walking distance to Sloane Square, the museums in South Kensington and Kensington. The rooms are beautiful and there are two wonderful outdoor seating options. onefinestay offered this house when another house fell through; the staff couldn't have been kinder or more accommodating. We absolutely loved our fine days in London and I hope to rent this home again on my next trip.

    • This home's master bedroom has a large double bed which is 145cm wide.
    • This home doesn't have air conditioning. Between June and September, we'll place fans in each bedroom. Please let us know if you'd like fans outside the summer period.
    • Some noise from the nearby train station can be heard inside the home, particularly during the day.
    • This home is spread over four floors with no internal elevator.
    • The bed in the second bedroom has changed since the onefinestay photoshoot.
