There’s an opulent Asian accent to the Golden Pavilion. Not only in this huge villa’s palatial facade, but also via its elegant Indonesian design touches – such as four-poster beds, the pagoda-roof portal and traditional statuary. Then there are the extensive tropical gardens’ lily ponds and sunken sitting areas, or the pool deck’s big, Balinese-style daybeds.

Secluded in four gated acres just above secluded Little Bay on eastern Tortola, Golden Pavilion excels at amenities. Additionally beside the heated infinity pool and hot tub are a fire pit, a rotisserie and two hammocks – from which sunsets or even passing whales might be enjoyed. Outdoor speakers connect to the focal, open-plan ‘great room’ and even its appliance-packed kitchen. Paths wind down to private, rocky coves fit for adventurous snorkelling. And an upstairs gallery combines spectacular sea views with an antique billiards table and a bar.

The main house contains four of the ensuite, air-conditioned bedrooms, headlined by an especially-big master suite and its Jacuzzi. Those seeking extra privacy are directed to the additional Guest Cottage apartment, which comes complete with a kitchenette. The villa also chucks in an office and an impressive gym. Continental breakfast is provided each morning and, based close by, the manager can arrange spa treatments, boat trips and restaurant reservations in Road Town.
