Not only one of the Amalfi Coast’s few large-group villas, Diana also boasts arguably its best swimming pool. She resembles an Italian palace, too, courtesy of white-stucco balustrades and a tall tower. Inside, classic Amalfi design – domed ceilings, colourful tiles and cheery, whitewashed walls – awaits in the airy ground-floor lounge, where sofas ring a grand piano, as well as in reading and dining rooms. Off those are a chef-level kitchen and six ensuite, queen-size bedrooms, each opening to the garden or terrace. Two can become twins.

Diana is equally palatial outside. Several spacious verandas offer magnificent Tyrrhenian Sea views and outdoor-dining opportunities, perhaps amid magical sunsets, and throw in a wood-burning pizza oven and barbecue for good measure. Below is that heated, 17-metre saltwater pool, ringed by chaise longues and a shower-equipped hut. And perfuming the whole scene are citrus scents; the villa’s garden includes a little lemon-tree orchard.

The location is impressive – on the fringes of arty, strollable Praiano, one of the Amalfi Coast’s most prestigious resort towns. That puts you dreamily close to Positano (with ferries to Capri), Ravello, Sorrento and Amalfi, while Naples and ruined Pompeii are in day-trip range. Your Travel Advisor can also arrange private boat trips to quiet beaches or reservations in the area’s finest restaurants.

    • Please note that this villa is reached from street level via a flight of 65 descending stairs, with a flight of 25 stairs required to reach the living room level. From here, the bedroom level is reached by a flight of 20 stairs, and the swimming pool can be accessed by a further 20 stairs. The villa’s step-only access may mean that it is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
