Designed for large groups keen on spending lazy days together, Villa Waterlily’s pavilions hug an inviting, L-shaped swimming pool with chlorinated saltwater. Not only that but the villa borders an idyllic beach, its toffee-hued sands brushing right up against your low garden wall.

Around that focal pool are tropical gardens interwoven by walkways, plus an open-sided dining sala and terraces for lounging. Alternatively, one of those pavilions contains a broad sweep of indoor living and eating areas, their whitewashed walls and wooden cathedral ceiling Balinese-inspired. In the state-of-the-art kitchen, your dedicated chef will prepare local or international meals using ingredients from Maenam’s food market.

Three bedrooms occupy the opposite pavilion, including a master suite whose daybed terrace looks over the beach to the sea. A further pair of capacious bedrooms are secluded by the rear of the pool, including twin options for friends. Each comes with a luxurious ensuite and features dark-wood floors, colourful paintings and outdoor showers.

Days at home can be embellished by borrowing kayaks and using the estate gym, or by getting Miskawaan’s excellent staff to arrange massages, yoga classes or Thai cookery lessons. They’re also able to offer street-food tours, speedboat trips to marine parks for snorkelling, picnics on empty islands and chauffeured excursions to elephant sanctuaries or waterfall hikes.
