A 20-minute drive from Sanur on Bali's south-eastern coast, the modern-meets-colonial-style Villa Piera enjoys fabulous sea views and direct access onto a black-sand surfing beach. Villa Piera sits right on the beach in the tiny, traditional Balinese village of Cucukan on the island's south-east coast. There's not much by way of facilities immediately surrounding the villa apart from several small stalls selling cold drinks and local snacks on the beach itself. There are some temples in the neighbourhood and a stroll along the narrow lane or the beach will bring you into contact with the Balinese and give you some good insight into how they live their day-to-day lives. A 5-minute drve away (or a 15-minute walk away and across the busy Sunrise highway – not for the faint-hearted) is the Bali Safari and Marine Park, a great day out for the family with all kinds of animals and live performances. Best to make use of the villa's complementary car and driver, however, just to ensure that you arrive safely.
