None of the villas scattered around this high-end enclave – overlooking a turquoise cove on Koh Samui’s northeastern tentacle – suits groups of friends as well as Villa Marla. Firstly, there’s ample privacy on offer whenever required, and no call for envy: all four sleeping quarters are large suites boasting king-sized beds, freestanding baths, walk-in rainfall showers and a daybed terrace. Not only that, but the presence of multiple sun decks and landscaped gardens guarantees that there’s always a quiet corner to be found.

When socialising is in order, however, this luxurious villa truly comes into its element. The large lawn is great for football or badminton games. The large saltwater infinity pool commands gorgeous sea views, as does an adjacent barbecue. The roof terrace and jacuzzi suit sundowners, and the media room’s large plasma screen encourages movie nights. Helping things along are a centralised surround-sound system and the full team of live-in staff. That includes a talented chef: his continental breakfasts are complimentary, while other meals can be ordered from daily menus whenever desired, and served inside or out.

It’s just a stroll to sandy Choeng Mon Beach, bordered by bars, boutiques and seafood shacks. The longer, legendary Chaweng Beach is close by, as are jungly zip-line rides, elephant sanctuaries and waterfall hikes – outings to which your concierge can arrange. Ditto massages or cooking classes, while Samujana’s shared tennis court is floodlit at night. Your board includes airport transfers.
