• The Thames is a tidal river. At high tide, the houseboat floats, while at low tide it sits at a gentle camber. While afloat, it rocks very gently. Most people find this calming rather than sickening, but it is possible it might bother those who are particularly sensitive to motion sickness.

  • Young children should always be supervised when they are near water.

  • There are a couple of procedures we may need to explain about how the gas and heating works if you are here for a longer stay.

  • Putney is a leafy residential suburb, but is a little further out than most of our homes. There’s a regular boat service to Embankment and the City which departs from a wharf two minutes away. It takes around 45 minutes to get to the centre of town.

About Putney

If you like messing around on water, Putney’s the place. Its history as one of the Thames’ most important crossing points has been parlayed into the village becoming a Mecca for rowing in the UK. If you’ve ever watched the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race, you’ll have visited it from afar. Take a few steps back from the river, and you’ll discover the spirit of democracy resides here too.
