“For me, Costa Rica is the ultimate destination for both exploring and relaxing. I love hiking through the endless jungle landscapes and hearing the sounds of tropical birds. I also adore basking in the sun on the gorgeous white sand shores. For me, the perfect getaway is a mix of the two, which is exactly what Costa Rica provides.”
Please note: these are the average temperatures reported but can vary greatly due to weather conditions, such as heat waves etc. We kindly invite you to contact us for more information, including confirmation that your chosen villa has air conditioning, to ensure a comfortable stay.
During spring: throughout the year, the temperatures in Costa Rica don’t change much, remaining at around 26 - 27°C (79 - 81°F). The only thing that varies is the rainfall, and that will also depend on your location. In the north of the country where you’ll find the densest jungles, humidity and rainfall during the spring can be relatively high, interspersed with dry spells. If your Costa Rica vacation rental is on the coast, you’ll benefit from cool winds that reduce the humidity and blow away any showers very quickly to reveal bright blue skies and sunny days.
During summer: during the summer, the ‘Green’ season starts in Costa Rica and rain showers can pop up unexpectedly, especially in the central valley. On the Caribbean coast, the Trade Winds blow in and reduce the humidity considerably, and the sea starts to warm from June onwards, making it ideal for snorkelling and diving.
During autumn: while September and October can be a little damp, especially in the tropical north, by November the ‘Green’ season draws to a close and the dry season starts. The days are sunny and warm, and showers are few and very brief, making this the start of the main travel season. Our Costa Rica villas and luxury vacation rental homes give you the chance to make the most of those balmy days on the beach, and the drier weather makes it ideal for adventures into the country’s interior to discover the plenitude of natural wonders here.
During winter: winter is a little bit of a misnomer in Costa Rica, as this is actually the driest and warmest time of the year, with rainfall barely registering and the thermometer firmly fixed at around 28°C (around 80°F). This is the time to explore places, such as Tortuguero National Park, or to go whale-watching to observe the humpback whales. Keep a look out for green macaws flying around Sarapiqui, and jewel-like hummingbirds darting around the garden of your luxurious rental villa.
Make the journey as memorable as the arrival. Your dedicated concierge can arrange transportation from the closest airport to your Costa Rica villa.
Most of our Costa Rican villas are located 1-3 hours from the airport, offering a scenic drive through lush landscapes. For those seeking shorter transfers, a select few villas are just 30 to 45 minutes away. Our Concierge team can recommend the best airport based on your villa’s location and arrange private drivers, vehicle delivery, or charter flights to nearby regional airports. Juan Santamaria Airport serves the capital, San José, while Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport is closest for villas along the Pacific Northwest coast. We’re here to ensure a smooth, relaxing journey from arrival to villa.
Costa Rica’s road system is good, allowing you to easily explore the country by car. The legendary Pan-American Highway runs through the country from the northern border with Nicaragua to the Panama border in the south. If you’re planning to visit the jungles of the north or head off the beaten track, ask your concierge to book a vehicle with 4x4 capabilities.
