Vacation rentals in Florence

The perfect stay
in Florence, Italy

The beating heart of the Renaissance and a true cultural, artistic and architectural marvel, Florence is, quite simply, breathtaking. This beautiful city has been one of the most important epicentres for culture and art for over 500 years, and is even credited with reinventing the modern concept of money. Our luxury vacation homes and apartments in Florence give you the chance to discover the marvels around every corner but be warned – one visit is never enough.

Rich beyond the wildest dreams of most of Medieval Europe, Florence was a cultural and economic powerhouse. Home to Galileo and other pioneering scientists, it created the energy and the drive to push forward the greatest cultural reformation in European history. Today, it remains as beautiful, as romantic, and as wonderous as ever, with wonders to be discovered down every cobbled street or through every ornate doorway.

Florence is all about indulging the senses, including your sense of taste. Treat yourself to a Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a huge steak that will satisfy even the most dedicated carnivores. For an on-the-go snack, a creamy gelato or a bag of crunchy Biscotti di Prato is a real treat. Spend the time between meals discovering the wonders of another museum or strolling around the stunning Boboli Gardens. One thing is for sure, Florence will capture your heart and you’ll return again and again.

“As a lifelong art and history buff, there is no better destination than Florence, Italy. I adore waking up early (with the help of a strong Italian espresso) and enjoying a peaceful morning stroll around the city before the rest of the world wakes up.”

Best time to go

  • During spring: with mild temperatures of around 20°C (68°F) and the gardens in full bloom, springtime in Florence is both serene and scenic. This is the time to wander through the piazzas, stop for a coffee al fresco, or see the historic sites of the city without the usual summer bustle. The atmosphere is relaxed and this is when you’ll find Florence at its most authentic. You may encounter the occasional rain shower, but they are usually very brief and the sun quickly returns.

  • During summer: the one thing that will strike you about Florence in the summer is the scent of jasmine everywhere. During this period, the temperatures climb up into the high 20s°C, the perfect excuse for indulging in some of the city’s famous gelato. Head to the strip of bars and cafés along the river in the evening for a glass of chilled wine and a bowl of rich Ragù di Cinghiale - rich wild boar ragu served upon ribbon pasta.

  • During autumn: as the seasons change, the visitors disperse and Florence takes on a more sleepy personality in the autumn. The weather is still excellent for sightseeing at this time of the year - not as hot as the summer months but still pleasantly warm. This is the perfect moment to visit the city’s gardens and parks, which are a blaze of autumnal orange, gold and red.

  • During winter: as with many northern European cities, Florence turns into a winter wonderland once the colder months arrive. Throughout November and December, the Christmas markets fill every square and the streets are bejewelled with coloured lights. January and February are the quietest months of the year, so if you want to browse the city’s world-famous works of art in complete peace, now is the time to visit.

How to get there

Make the journey as memorable as the arrival. Your dedicated concierge can arrange transportation from the closest airport or train station to your Florence home.

By car

The easiest way to get in and out of Florence is via the A-1 Autostrada which connects you to Milan, Bologna and the north. From Pisa, the easiest route to and from Florence is the A-11. The roads are wide and well maintained but note that driving inside the old walled quarter of the city is prohibited, and parking can be challenging, especially during the summer. Leave your car at your Florence vacation rental and hop into one of the city’s many taxis instead.

By plane

Florence has its own airport, the Amerigo Vespucci International Airport. Connections from here to the centre of the city take around 20-30 minutes. Alternatively, you can arrive at Pisa Airport. Your dedicated concierge can arrange a VIP transfer to your home in Florence on arrival, or organise a hire car to be waiting for you at the airport.

By train

Italy’s rail network is superb and is a wonderful way to see the Tuscan countryside as you arrive in Florence. You’ll find rail connections from the airport are fast and efficient and links to other cities, such as Paris, Munich and Vienna, are frequent and an enjoyable way to travel across Europe.

Local tips

  • Florence is best explored on foot, the historic centre of the city is pretty compact, so everything can be reached in 20 minutes or less.
  • It’s good to note that the Uffizi and the Accademia Gallery are closed on Mondays, but the Duomo, the Cathedral Opera Museum and Palazzo Vecchio remain open.
  • Tuscany is one of the most beautiful parts of Italy and its vineyards produce some of the best wines in the world - we highly suggest a wine tasting experience in this region.
