Known for its famous “Champagne Powder” snow, Steamboat is one of North America’s premier family-friendly ski resorts. In fact, so many winter Olympic athletes have come from Steamboat, over the years it has earned the nickname “Ski Town, USA” - and when you get the chance to step out onto the slopes, you’ll realise what makes this town so special.

Take in the spectacular scenery of Colorado

From the exquisite eateries of Steamboat Springs to the spectacular views over the Yampa Valley, everything is in place for you to unwind and make the most of this beautiful Coloradan town.

Where to ski in Steamboat

Offering some of the most desirable tree skiing experiences in North America, the Steamboat scenery is truly a breathtaking sight to behold; ride up the mountain on the Gondola to make the most of the area’s outstanding natural beauty. Spread over seven peaks, the resort boasts an even split between blue and black diamond runs, with a few green runs here and there for beginners.

For the adventurous skiers seeking a challenge

The longest run is Why Not, a green track stretching over three miles that takes a scenic, meandering path down the mountain. Difficult and intermediate runs feature across all of Mount Werner, although Storm Peak North – near Morningside Park – offers some of the resort’s most extreme runs that should only be attempted by experts.

Learn to ski or snowboard with certified pros

If it’s your first time skiing or snowboarding, take a few lessons with the Steamboat Snowsports School. It can also be a good idea to invest in a First Tracks pass – this will grant you early access to the snow, meaning you can practise your skills on the powdery white slopes long before the crowds come flocking to the mountain.

A freestyle terrain for snowboard fans

If you’re after something different, head to the freestyle terrain found nearer the base of the mountain. Lil’ Rodeo is well suited to first-time snowboarders trying their hand at a few tricks, intermediate riders should try out Rabbit Ears, while the most advanced jibbers can take on the famous Mavericks Terrain Park with its vast superpipe, jump lines and rails.

Summer activities in Steamboat

With its sprawling national parks, hot springs and wide variety of excellent restaurants and bars, summer in Steamboat is no less magical than any other season. Enjoy the mountains by foot or bike, whatever your skill and fitness levels.

Other ways to soak up the magnificent landscape include a scenic ride in the Gondola or a thrilling ride down the zip line. Take a dip in the local hot springs, dine in style at the restaurants or roam through the forests at your leisure; how you want to spend your summer is entirely up to you.

Hiking trails abound for every skill level

Experienced hikers will want to try the challenging Thunderhead Trail, while those who simply want to take in the sights can enjoy the Vista Nature Trail’s laidback one-mile loop around the mountain.

Relax in complete tranquillity in shimmering hot springs

If, after a day of adventure, you simply want to give your legs a rest, indulge in an evening of pure relaxation at Strawberry Park Hot Springs. Bathe in the shimmering hot springs and bask in the area’s natural beauty and total tranquillity or sit outside to eat in the picturesque picnic spots. The park is family-friendly during the day and adults-only at night, so you can tailor your experience to suit you.

Where to eat in Steamboat

Discover the best restaurants around this side of the Rockies, from traditional American faire to fresh omakase sushi prepared in front of you. You can expect to find cuisine to delight every member of the family.

Featuring the perfect blend of rustic and chic, E3 Chophouse is the ultimate destination for steak lovers. Serving beef from the family ranch, as well as a delectable selection of seafood, this restaurant offers excellent dishes, paired with expertly crafted cocktails and wonderful views. Sit outside or by a window for breathtaking vistas over the Yampa River and Howelsen Hill.

For more casual American alpine cuisine, you won’t find better than Truffle Pig. Bask in the warm, inviting atmosphere as you take in the views of Mount Werner and enjoy delicious meals made from wonderfully fresh ingredients – dine inside or relax on the outdoor patio. Happy Hour starts at 4 pm; opt for an old favourite or try one of the bar’s unique and always sumptuous cocktails.

Nestled on Lincoln Avenue, Tahk Omakase Sushi is a true unexpected gem. Here, the chefs are trained in the traditional Japanese styles of sushi preparation: Edo-Mae and Izakaya. Despite being tucked away in Steamboat, the dishes here are of such high calibre you would expect to find them in San Francisco, New York or even Tokyo itself. The selection changes daily based on the current season and ingredient availability, and no matter what you try, the meals and sake are sure to delight your taste buds. Make sure to book your reservation to guarantee a table.

If you’re in the mood for something a little lively, T-Bar is the place to go. A ski-in/ski-out dive bar on Mount Werner, the laid-back environment and fun-filled ambience makes this one of the town’s most popular après ski destinations. Choose from a wide range of beers and other drinks or enjoy exquisitely crafted international dishes as you sit outside in the crisp mountain air.
