A television media executive with a front-row seat to Hollywood, Jay Roewe has made his home high in the Hollywood Hills a study in considered living. When he’s not shaping what appears on screen, he opens his doors with onefinestay. Here, he shares his insider recommendations for Los Angeles, and why partnering with onefinestay fits his way of living and traveling.

Tell us about yourself, and about this part of Los Angeles you call home.

My name is Jay Roewe, and I've lived in Los Angeles for just over 40 years. We’re sitting here in the Hollywood Hills, in Nichols Canyon. I’m a television media executive, and I’m very happy to have the onefinestay team in our home today.

What first drew you to this home, and what made you fall in love with it?

I think the first time my wife Liz and I walked into the house, we both fell in love with it. There’s something about the energy and the flow of the place that feels almost magical. Even where I’m sitting right now feels like a sweet spot. It’s been updated and designed to feel very contemporary, and the high ceilings give you a real sense of space.

What made you decide to start sharing your home?

Once our children were grown, we found ourselves with extra space in the house. It was space we had designed first and foremost for the comfort of our family, but we quickly realized it appealed to others as well.

Los Angeles is a business hub for people coming from around the world, and this house is ideal for anyone looking for quiet and a chance to recharge after a busy day in the city. You’re right in the heart of LA, with easy access to restaurants, culture, theater, music. With so many cultures coming together, it’s one of the richest places in the world.

Do any guest moments stand out for you?

We’ve had some very special guests stay here, and we give onefinestay a lot of credit for that. One guest became so taken with the house that they photographed the backyard and turned it into a puzzle. When they left, they gave it to us as a gift, as a thank you for the wonderful time they had spent here.

What’s made the partnership with onefinestay work so well for you?

Working with onefinestay has been a very positive experience. When we want to put the house on the market or take it off, it’s as simple as going into the calendar.

We’ve used onefinestay not only to rent our home, but also when we travel ourselves. When we took the family to London and needed a place near Kensington, we turned to onefinestay. They found us a wonderful property, and we had a great experience while we were there.

What’s your Los Angeles one must-do?

When people come to stay here, the first thing we do is to tell them to take advantage of the Hollywood Hills - there are some incredible trails near here! You're also right in the heart of LA which is a cultural hub of the world, so get out there and enjoy the restaurants, theatre, music and culture.

When guests arrive, what do you hope they discover here?

I think this is a magical house. Every person who comes here seems to find their own sense of serenity, and their own special place within it.
