What about food? Espanto’s award-winning chef will supply bespoke daily menus based on a survey you filled out beforehand. Just ask if you want breakfast in bed or candlelit dinners out on your dock. In between, pantry snacks are free to raid.

Days can be spent lazing on the beach or wading into the shallow sea for some bonefishing. Equally, Casa Sonora’s devoted houseman can direct you to kayaks and pedalos, or arrange for therapists to come and provide manicures or massages. The activity menu includes diving excursions to Belize’s remarkable barrier reef, birdwatching on neighbouring islands and snorkelling with sharks in Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Daytime shuttles also serve the mainland for days of Mayan temples or jungly jaguar-watching.
