Part of the gated Miskawaan estate on Koh Samui’s north coast, beachfront Villa Lotus is a colossus. Beyond the eponymous lotus pond, its three huge pavilions are arranged around an equally gigantic chlorinated saltwater pool. One contains a stylish dining area and the elegant, teak-floored lounge, its wood carvings surrounding a large TV, with Netflix on tap. A private chef is on hand throughout the stay, chiefly using ingredients from Maenam’s food market.

Another mighty pavilion hosts the games room – featuring pool and foosball tables – plus a massage pagoda, steam room and most of the bedrooms, some opening onto terraces gloriously facing the Gulf of Thailand. A master suite occupies all of the final pavilion, and includes an office area, jacuzzi bathtub, outdoor shower and private roof terrace.

Outside, a bar, barbecue, dining table and dartboard mean you can easily spend a day socialising at home, as do hammocks and a shaded, open-air sala lounge. Lawns connect onto Miskawaan’s private, 250-metre stretch of sandy beach via two private gateways. Each villa is equipped with beach gear and kayaks, plus toys for children.

The estate’s staff can arrange numerous other activities, too, from yoga or gym sessions in its wellness centre to Thai cookery lessons, chauffeured trips to elephant sanctuaries or zip lines, street-food tours, speedboat excursions to snorkel in Angthong National Marine Park or picnics on uninhabited islands.
