This splendid part of France captures the quintessential spirit of soft summer days, long, golden evenings, and lazy afternoons spent exploring Medieval villages that cling to the sides of cliffs. Tumbling cobbled streets beg to be wandered while the open fields of lavender and vineyards add colour and scent to the countryside. The region is home to the Luberon National Park, one of France's most important ecological conservation areas and a lush playground for those who adore the outdoors. Thirty minutes away from Joucas is the historic city of Avignon, a must for history lovers and culture aficionados.
The villa of Joucas surprises and beguiles at every turn. The spectacular stone vaulted ceilings and huge fireplace that dominates the living area speak of the villa’s history. A striking stone arch leads through to the elegant dining room, while the kitchen is typically French with a combination of classic Shaker Style cabinets and high-end appliances. If you simply must answer those emails, a private office space gives you the peace and quiet you need.
The bedrooms are modern yet sympathetic to the traditions of the buildings, with stone flag floors and neutral colourways. They are divided between the main villa, the guest house and the annexe. In the main villa are three bedrooms, one of which is wheelchair accessible. All three have large king-size beds and ensuites with copious amounts of marble and bespoke fixtures. The guest house has two more king-size bedrooms with ensuites and access to the terrace, while the annexe houses the final two king-size bedrooms. The annexe and guest house offer additional privacy for guests.
The outside of Joucas is a meandering mix of terraces and sun lounge areas, with a large swimming pool and al fresco dining area. Guests can utilise the nearby hotel tennis courts and free access to Spa 'Carita'. This villa is a tranquil retreat for larger groups or families who want an authentic experience of this charismatic part of Provence.
