Steeped in Old World charm, Casa de Maquinas is a gorgeous six-bedroom rural getaway that dates back to 1850. The villa is spread across three limestone buildings with remnants of the past still glimpsed in iron wheels, impressive beams and an awe-inspiring water tower, which has now been transformed into a sumptuous bathroom.

The villa is set within beautiful grounds adorned with exotic rare palm trees, fruit trees, bamboo and tropical plants, surrounded by rustic limestone walls. Soak up the stunning views from a sunlounger next to the glittering freshwater pool, dipping in every so often to cool off. Adding to the allures of the outdoors are lily ponds filled with fish, not to mention a jaw-dropping tunnel meticulously decorated with seashell mosaic artwork.

The three buildings at Casa de Maquinas are Casa Vieja, Casa Antigua and Casa Nueva, in addition to the open-air living area called the Loggia. The first is the main building, with a grand living area that is reminiscent of centuries past, yet with a few tasteful modern touches such as a full stereo system, plenty of games and some books should you rush through your holiday collection. The spacious colonial kitchen is kitted out with all you need to whip up your favourite dishes, which can be enjoyed with your loved ones at the sweeping dark wood dining table. Should you fancy socialising in the open air, head to the Loggia where you’ll find plush sofas, a large dining area and even a rooftop lounge that’s perfect for late-night stargazing with a cocktail in hand.

The six bedrooms are split across the buildings, ideal for multi-generational families and groups of friends who are seeking a little privacy during their stay. Three rooms are located in Casa Vieja, including two king-sized master bedrooms both with attached bathrooms. Designed with families in mind, one of these rooms leads on to the loft area, which features a queen-sized and single bed. There are also three rooms in Casa Nueva, all with private ensuite bathrooms and lovely views over the gardens. The highlight of these is the master bedroom, which stars a king-sized bed, private patio garden and plunge pool.
