Split across its two levels, Villa Pastel’s pair of bedrooms are equivalent to those of top luxury hotels. Each has a four-poster bed romantically swathed in mosquito netting, plus full entertainment systems and spa-like bathrooms containing a large tub. Both have private terraces with ocean views and exotic, Asian-style chairs, too, and one – cue squabbles! – also throws in an outdoor shower, too.

Extended slumber will be tempting, yet you’ll doubtless want to socialise with the other couple, or your children – Pastel works as well for friends as families. Below a pitched, dark-wood ceiling (again Asian-inspired), the villa’s main, upper level stars an open-plan ‘great room’ which unites its lounge space, dining area and a full-sized kitchen. Should anyone need to check their emails, an office is also provided.

Letting in soft breezes and sunlight, large glass doors open to the tempting terrace and its jaw-dropping, show-stopping L-shaped infinity pool. That, together with several wood-deck areas, loungers and a covered terrace with sofas, maximises the uninterrupted hilltop views over lush slopes and Saint Jean’s glittering bay toward neighbouring islands. A tranquil, west-facing position guarantees sun and is ideal for barbecue parties; later on, how about mixing cocktails ahead of some stargazing?

You’re only a short drive from Lorient’s sandy beach, supermarkets and restaurants, and a mere stroll from the Christopher hotel’s Sisley spa.
