With some of the best skiing and snowboarding slopes in the USA and a packed summer events schedule, Telluride has maintained that friendly, local atmosphere where you're immediately made to feel like you belong. There's even a craft distillery producing a unique bourbon to keep out the cold on those chilly evenings.
Benchmark Manor is a genuine show-stopper of a chalet. Made from specially-selected oversized logs from the Santa Fe National Forest, it embraces the vastness of the American wilderness by scaling up every aspect of the interior. The Great Room earns its name with cathedral-like spaces flooded with light from floor-to-ceiling glass and filled with plush sofas and oversized armchairs. The dining room is like something from a Hollywood film, with a massive stone fireplace keeping diners warm. A bespoke kitchen is filled with the finest quality appliances, while a full-size theatre room is just the place for watching that latest blockbuster.
The seven bedrooms each have their own exquisite interiors, and there’s even an in-wall oxygen system to deliver fresh, cool air to the primary suite and the two downstairs guestrooms, which can help alleviate the effects of altitude sickness. The primary suite is incredible, with a king-size bed, a private sitting area and a crackling open fire to keep the chilly mountain weather at bay. Three of the guestrooms also have king-size beds, and there are three bunk rooms collectively providing four sets of twin-over-queen captain bunks and a twin-over-full bunk. Throughout, that log cabin motif is present, giving each bedroom plenty of character.
Naturally, with a chalet of this standard, there's a hot tub, but you also have a fabulous terrace complete with a stone fire pit, as well as outdoor dining for those warmer summer evenings. Sit back, top up your glass of locally-produced craft bourbon and watch the sunset from this genuinely magnificent chalet, and let your cares drift away on the mountain breeze.
