Paying tribute to the region’s rich mining heritage is Powder Place, a gloriously indulgent five-bedroomed chalet that welcomes up to 12 guests. Nestled in a leafy glade, it’s surrounded by spruce trees and mountain views that will take your breath away. During the winter months (and depending on the snowfall), ski-in-ski-out access is possible to one of the best ski resorts in the USA via the challenging Lower Galloping Goose run.
Telluride is a characterful mountain town built on gold and silver mining. Tucked away in a box canyon, the city is overlooked by dramatic peaks and alpine meadows, lakes filled with trout and meandering hiking trails. This is a place where you can explore the wild beauty of the wilderness in the morning and dine on gourmet food from around the world in the evening, washed down with a tipple of craft bourbon from Telluride’s very own distillery.
Combining classic architectural motifs with contemporary design flourishes, Powder Place is a warm and cosy retreat with a world-class ski resort right in your backyard. The huge windows of the Great Room look out over the snow fields, giving you an uninterrupted view of the slopes and the mountains beyond. Signature features include a bold stone fireplace with a massive stone lintel and brightly patterned rugs that complement the honey-coloured wooden floor. The kitchen is well stocked with top-end appliances and polished granite work surfaces, while the elegant dining room is ideal for a more formal meal.
The primary suite and one of the guestrooms feature sumptuous king-size beds, while two more guest bedrooms have queen-size beds. Each room has its own personality, with rustic furnishings and bespoke artworks giving them a boutique feel. The final room is just right for younger guests and has four twin beds and a wonderfully quirky ‘bunkhouse’ atmosphere.
Outside, the cowboy theme gives way to a spa feel with an indulgent hot tub, where you can sip a glass of wine and watch the sunset. Powder Place is definitely an escape for those who love the outdoors and can picture themselves as true Frontier explorers but with a healthy serving of opulence too.
