There’s no doubting Coco Caribe’s headline. Framed by glassy tiles and palm fronds, its two-part pool affords enchanting views over turquoise Fish Bay, where pelicans frequently dive, to the national park’s tropical, lush mountains. So too do lounging areas on the various decks, each equipped with quality chaise longues or furniture and washed by warm trade winds.

Facing east, Coco Caribe’s terraces receive the sun from morning to early-afternoon, so you might prefer to split your day with some afternoon exploration. That’s easily accomplished: from here in the prestigious Point Rendezvous neighbourhood, it’s only ten minutes to Cruz Bay’s shops, restaurants, bars and boat tours, and twice that to those incredible, world-famous North Shore beaches.

All four large, ensuite bedrooms also command dramatic Caribbean Sea and hillside views from their trellis-lined balconies – providing the option of privacy for groups of friends seeking some respite from socialising. Each has a bathtub and one, with families in mind, is actually a loft apartment containing a trundle bed which can convert into two twins. Downstairs, the sprawling, vaulted ‘great room’ comprises a flatscreen-TV lounge, an indoor dining table to rival the al fresco alternative, and a kitchen with appliances galore and a casual, chair-lined breakfast bar. Fresh flowers and soft-hued fabrics throughout effect a soothing, homely atmosphere.
