Utterly huge, Caribbean Jewel offers families the perfect compromise: it’s very close to the Caribbean Sea it so gorgeously overlooks, yet far enough uphill to provide serenity. Montego Bay’s lively ‘Hip Strip’ is just 15 minutes away, while three championship golf courses – Cinnamon Hill, White Witch and Half Moon – are nearer still, with the latter’s resort also throwing in a sandy beach, watersports and tennis courts.

Part of the gated Spring Farm estate, Caribbean Jewel comes with cheerful, discreet staff including a chef and butler; the emphasis is very much on that laid-back Caribbean lifestyle. Hence the open-plan, free-flowing ‘great room’, where separate areas suit informal dining or daydreaming.
