Built into a lush hillside on Koh Samui’s peaceful southwest coast, the four-bedroom L2 Residence cascades downward like a tropical treehouse. Huge boulders have been incorporated, and ocean vistas recur constantly. They’re especially jaw-dropping from the plunge pool – fed by a waterfall feature to prolong the natural feel – and its comfortably furnished sun deck. Tree-lined gardens enhance the exotic sense of seclusion.

The interiors are arty, airy, and even slightly minimal. Polished wooden ceilings match the forested setting, as zebra prints and houseplants lend warmth to open-plan rooms and whitewashed walls. The main, L-shaped pavilion contains a superb kitchen and sprawling living-and-dining space; upstairs, its chill-out lounge commands more fine vistas. Back outside, a dining terrace and bar are primely positioned as sunset reddens the bay. L2 Residence’s four bedrooms occupy a second multi-level pavilion. Each features floor-to-ceiling glass doors which open onto private balconies, as well as beautiful ocean views.

L2 Residence is part of the gated Santhikiri Estate, putting it close to both the award-winning Kamalaya wellness sanctuary and Lamai Beach’s sand, restaurants, bars and boutiques and bars. Promising live DJs and endless mango bellinis, the bohemian Nikki Beach resort is only slightly further. Santhikiri’s shared facilities include a larger pool and yoga gazebo.
